The product works. The payments go through. The documents land in inboxes. The checklist is done. And yet here we are, cursor blinking, not quite pressing the button.
This is the part nobody talks about. The gap between ready and launched. It doesn't feel like excitement. It feels like standing at the edge of something and not being entirely sure what's on the other side.
What It's Actually Like to Build Alone
Sheety Onboarding was built by one person. That person is me. No co-founder to sanity-check the pricing. No team to gut-check the copy. No one to ask whether the checkout flow makes sense or whether the tier names are confusing. Just a lot of decisions made in sequence, most of them irreversible by the time the next one comes along.
Solo building is strange. The work is yours completely, which feels good right up until it doesn't. Every call is your call. Every mistake is yours. Every "is this a terrible idea?" has nowhere to land.
What helped was having something to think out loud with. Not something that made the decisions. Something that made the decisions feel less like shouting into a room alone.
I used Claude throughout this build. Not as a shortcut. Not to write the product for me. The instructional design behind every document, the structure, the decisions about what belongs in a Basic tier versus Ultimate, those came from years of working in this field. But having a thinking partner that doesn't get tired, doesn't lose the thread, and doesn't make you feel like an idiot for asking the same question three different ways? That part was real.
The Irony I Keep Sitting With
Sheety Onboarding exists because new hires shouldn't have to figure things out alone. The whole premise is that walking into a new job without a clear path is disorienting and avoidable. That the people who show up on day one deserve something that was designed for them, not copy-pasted from a folder.
And I built it while needing exactly that.
Not someone to do the work. Just something that made the work feel less like shouting into a room alone. The same thing I was building for everyone else.
I don't think that's embarrassing. I think it's the point. Nobody does their best work completely alone. The ones who pretend otherwise are usually the ones who take three times as long and arrive at a worse answer.
What Happens When You Press the Button
Honestly? I don't know yet. That's the part I can't control.
What I know is that the product is real. The documents it generates are actually good. Built on an instructional design framework that most onboarding tools don't think about because most onboarding tools were built by engineers, not educators.
I know the people who need this exist. HR directors at small companies who are onboarding three people a year with a Google Doc from 2021. Team leads who spend the first two weeks of every new hire's tenure re-explaining the same things. People who know onboarding matters and just haven't had something worth using.
I know the button has to get pressed at some point, and "later when it's more ready" is a trap. It's ready. The rest is just anxiety pretending to be diligence.
